Customer Reviews — [1] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-09-27 Summary: Great hammer, misleading weight ... First of all, this hammer is not 15oz like people might think. The head weighs 15oz, but not the hammer as a whole. The total weight of the hammer is 31oz, which is 7oz heavier than the 14oz Stiletto hammer with the hickory handle. There is no question about how well this hammer drives nails. It's great, but it is not lightweight like the misleading 15oz tag would suggest. Overall, the hammer feels great and I like the fact that the face can be changed out. The downside is the cost, which will run you a couple of bills. ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2007-11-17 Summary: Best Hammer Ever ... I've had this hammer for four years and like some of the others my head screw came loose all the time. I added a couple drops of Lock-Tite and never had the problem again. I had elbow problems for some time and wanted to go to a lighter hammer. I had always used wood handled hammers which eventually always broke and wanted the durability of metal. This had me worried for my elbow but my solution was to wrap the handle with tennis racket tape which absorbs each blow and also protects the handle as a bonus. What I have ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2006-11-25 Summary: Ultimate Framing Hammer ... I have used Stiletto hammers for years, and always loved them, I had a hard time justifying the price for the Ti-bone, but after a month of driving (and pulling) 16's I have to say this is the finest tool I have ever owned. It has all the advantaged of an old school Estwing (nearly indistructable) but none of the disadvantages (hard as hell on your elbow and heavy)It drives sinkers in 2 swats easily and it is easier to control than almost any hammer I ever tried. The magnetic nail starter will make placing those hard ...more

Customer Reviews — [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2010-07-30 Summary: Professional Framer ... This is a great hammer. I used to swing a 14 oz. stiletto but got sick of breaking my handles all the time. I thought it would take a bit of time to adapt to the extra two ounces of dalluge but this hammer is so incredibly balanced that you feel like you are swinging a much lighter hammer. This hammer has it all from the magnetic nail set to the side nail puller. it was just designed to make a framer's life easier. Some people might not want a wood handled hammer especially when the replacement handles cost $35 but ...more
[2] Rating: 4 Date: 2010-07-26 Summary: Not quite sure ... I bought this because i wanted to switch to titanium again and I hate stillettos. I like the hammer but I wish the claws were a little bit longer. Also the handle broke after 3 weeks and replacements are double what a normal hammer handle costs. Otherwise its become my favorite framer. ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2010-07-13 Summary: worth the wait ... I waited a while to buy this hammer,I'd looked at it and drolled over it and researched it,but,I've had a wood handled stilleto 16 oz for 5 yrs. That did not need replacing.Well the Dalluge finally went on sale right about the time I had some extra cash..so I got it. This may be the best hammer I've ever used(pro carpenter/builder 15yrs) it's so well balanced,it is almost a treat to swing.I just cant comment on the longevity because I've only had for about 2 months....so far so good! ...more
[4] Rating: 5 Date: 2010-06-12 Summary: Ya get what you pay for ... I researched this a long time, couldn't justify the cost because I have so many hammers already and I don't use it professionally. I had to wait for my birthday so my kids could 'group gift' something that would last longer than I would and this hammer should do it. The weight is the same as others and has a longer handle but feels lighter because of the balance. It's also somewhat empowering when you have the only one like this of all the people you know. It really is a great design, and the workmanship is first class. ...more
[5] Rating: 5 Date: 2010-03-29 Summary: Smokin' Hammer ... I grew up in construction on a 24 ounce Vaughan steel framing hammer. I still have the original 24 ounce head, though I've been through a few handles. Been out of the business for decades, but in preparation for building my own house start to finish, I looked into titanium because I knew my elbow wouldn't take almost a year of the old Vaughan. I picked up this 16 ounce Dalluge based upon great reviews. I also picked up a 12 ounce Stilleto and a 14 ounce Stilleto for my sons. Wish I could return the Stilleto's as there ...more
Editorial Reviews — ... Product Description | Vaughan 7180 16 Oz Dalluage HammerThe Vaughan California Framer hammer combines the best features of two of our most popular tools into a rugged, heavy construction hammer. The smoothly swept claws were borrowed from the "999" rip hammer, and the striking face, hatchet eye and sturdy handle are a heritage of the Vaughan Rigbuilder's Hatchet. The striking face is extra large to minimize the chance of missed strikes. The hatchet style handle, available straight or curved, is made from American...more
