This is a story of a comet striking earth and the aftermath for humanity. It starts well in advance with the discovery of the Hamner-Brown comet. Sometimes the timing is a little suspect. I mean the government is able to throw together a mission to space that is a joint mission with the Russians in only a couple of months. Overall, It was a great read and was exciting from start to finish. Good luck to the human race. ...more

[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-12-19 Summary: I Loved It ... As one who greatly enjoyed Hammer's films growing up, I greatly enjoyed this book as well as Marcus Hearn's other book on Hammer films. I've met several of the women featured in this book: Caroline Munro, Madeline Smith, Martine Beswicke, the late, wonderful Hazel Court and my favorite, Ingrid Pitt. It was so nice reading about them here as well as so many others. Hammer, the well known British film studio, was known for it's horror films, but also for never failing to have one or more beautiful women in the cast. Their mix of sexiness and blood was one that would be often imitated but never duplicated. This book really does justice to the many known and unknown actresses of Hammer. The book is a large format and full color throughout so the photos really shine with almost all the women recieving at least one full page photo. The weird irony of this book is that the Ripper murders are going on and our Heroine, Grace, considers them a tabloid annoyance, wrapped as she is in her own problems. My one quibble would be with what the book isn't -- this is not a comprehensive survey of Hammer's entire output.
