The newest edition of this book has a new chapter never before translated which is good because I always thought the novel ended too abruptly and left me wondering what had happened! [3] Rating: 4 Date: 2006-07-26 Summary: Law/Gospel distinction - the forgotten doctrine of the Reformation ... This is an excellent book and much needed for evangelicals in our day. Although this is laden with some Lutheran thought that I theologically disagree with (being a Reformed Baptist), so that a small amount of discernment is required, from my point of view, the thrust of the book is about Christ alone as the sole foundation of our hope and the distinction between Law and Gospel. For one who generally does not read novels, this book is welcome both for these theological reasons and for the interest in the stories themselves. ...more

Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer collection is a must have for detective thrillers and nostalgia seekers alike. The lowest common denominator language unembellished with adjectives and adverbs is raw, urgent, harsh and cuts to the bone. Hammer is a hard drinking neanderthal with a nonstop libido. This set (and it's companion volume) really represent Spillane and Hammer at their hard-bitten best. In this large volume, the editors essentially try to tell the story of Hammer Studios, the movie production company that went from obscurity to legend in the genre of horror and suspense. First off, Titan Books should be commended for producing a very attractive, informative volume with lots of great photos concerning the history of Hammer Studios. My one quibble would be with what the book isn't -- this is not a comprehensive survey of Hammer's entire output.
