The Hammer Story
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-10-18 Summary: Excellent Overview ... I am not normally a fan of "coffee table" books. But, in this case, I am happy to make an exception. In this large volume, the editors essentially try to tell the story of Hammer Studios, the movie production company that went from obscurity to legend in the genre of horror and suspense. It is, as other reviews quite correctly point out, not complete, so it cannot be called a full history. But, I still give it five stars for superb editing, superior physical construction and layout, and the synposes of most of Hammer's ...more
[2] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-11-18 Summary: The Haunted House That Hammer Built ... Alan Barnes and Marcus Hearn's THE HAMMER STORY is an exhaustive historical study of the horror films produced by Britain's Hammer Studios from the 1950s to the 1970s. For each film, the book offers a story synopsis, production history, and a discussion of critical and popular reaction. Also, the book includes a short history of the studio itself and information on those who helmed and shaped it over the years, and short biographies of some of the stars, screenwriters, and directors of various films are scattered throughout. ...more
[3] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-07-21 Summary: Stylish Yet Incomplete Survey of Hammer ... First off, Titan Books should be commended for producing a very attractive, informative volume with lots of great photos concerning the history of Hammer Studios. The key films are discussed in depth, usually with two pages devoted to behind-the-scenes info regarding all your favorites. My one quibble would be with what the book isn't -- this is not a comprehensive survey of Hammer's entire output. The b&w thrillers are glossed over as are the comedies, the swashbucklers and the forgotten noirs. All well and good if ...more
[4] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-06-27 Summary: Long, Live Hammer Films ... This book has everything you would want to know about Hammer Studios, great artwork, wonderful summaries and much more. ...more
Editorial Reviews ... Product Description | Fifty years ago, Hammer Films released The Curse of Frankenstein. The now-legendary British company went on to make such classics as Dracula (and its many sequels), making international stars out of Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, changing the face of horror cinema, and inspiring a generation of Hollywood filmmakers, including George Lucas, Martin Scorsese and Tim Burton. Now, for the first time, Hammer have given their active backing to an authorised history of the company, and have...more
Hammer Films- A Life In Pictures: The Visual Story of Hammer Films
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-07-19 Summary: One of the best books on Hammer Films ... This book may strike some people as pricey, but if you love Hammer Films like I do, it is well worth it. This book is different from other Hammer books in that it is totally visual. Most of the pictures have never been published before, and there are a number of behind-the-scenes photos which show a side of Hammer Films most fans have not seen. This book does not contain a "nuts and bolts" history of Hammer--there are plenty of other books which do that. This is a book for the hard-core Hammer fan who thinks he or ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-03-01 Summary: Beautiful Photo History of Hammer Films ... This is a fantastic book. Hundreds of photos showcase the studio that was Hammer. Broken down into chapters including Frankenstein, Dracula, Science Fiction, Drama, Fantasy, Comedy, etc. The photos are crisp and clear, mostly b/w, but there are several color sections. You will spend hours with this book. I loved it and wish there were more books like this. Limited to 2500 copies, get yours today before they are gone. ...more

Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 4 Date: 2009-11-10 Summary: Great Conclusion to a Good Story ... Karen Miller is a fine storyteller and this book is an exciting conclusion to the Godspeaker Trilogy. The first book of the three is in my opinion the slowest, but the other two more than make up. I really enjoyed all three. ...more
[2] Rating: 4 Date: 2009-07-05 Summary: A Strong End to a Strong Series ... I carefully read and enjoyed the other two books in this trilogy, Empress and The Riven Kingdom, despite the many negative things written on this website about them. I think I came into this book with high expectations, therefore, and most of them were met. I would strongly recommend this book to a friend, and would convince people who are doubting the series after Empress (which seems to be the common path), to at least continue on to this book. Please be forewarned, if you continue to read this review, there will ...more

Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-07-17 Summary: Hammer is the Master ... Dr. Hammer is deservedly the master of process change. His books give a good overview of his concepts, and serve as an effective evaluation of what you can achieve by following his methods. However, I found that his training courses are the best way to get the training required to implement his approach. My profession is business transformation, and Dr. Hammer is the model I primarily use in my work. There are many tools available (and required) to achieve and sustain effective business change, but Hammer is my primary ...more

[4] Rating: 5 Date: 2004-10-21 Summary: The customer economy requires more than reenginering ... Michael Hammer became a guru by coining the term reengineering and writing bestsellers on business processes. Reengineering was a revolutionary "big idea" that took businesses with storm in the early 1990s. A decade after his first publications, Hammer's book, "The Agenda", acknowledge that reengineering is no "silver bullet" ... it cannot stand alone. Modern management needs to use several business concepts simultaneously to thrive in the new customer economy, i.e. where supply exceeds demand (overcapacity), customers ...more

[2] ... Review | "Suddenly," writes Michael Hammer in the opening to his confidently but aptly named new book The Agenda , "business is not so easy anymore." He then sets out an ambitious plan for righting what many businesses are doing wrong, much as he did a decade ago in his bestselling Reengineering the Corporation . This time, however, he retreats from the overarching "big idea" promulgated in his earlier book to present a system that incorporates nine ideas geared for an environment where customers really do...more
